"Cami"
D.O.B. June 6,1999
Today is our Cami's tenth birthday. She has been retired from the breeding program for the last 4 years now. Cami was always on the darker yellow side, but not a true fox red, now her poor face is so gray. Cami was always our super whelper. Her first litter she gave us 14 puppies. She always gave as large litters which was very hard on her and her body. Now at the ripe old age of ten she has some arthritis and a slight bit of neurologic disease in her rear end. We try to keep her as comfortable as possible with the help of our veterinarians. She goes in every 6 months for her checkups and labwork. She just had labs this week and she is currently fighting a very mild anemia. Not sure what from, so we are starting with the most obvious thing and deworming her, then we will check her values in a few weeks. Wish her luck. Cami is a great old dog. She is very smart and the only dog I have ever had that needed a padlock on her kennel. She is very good at opening those kennel doors just as you turn your back. I have spent hours upon hours in the whelping box with this dog. Having such large litters takes a long time and the uterus gets very tired of contracting. However we always managed to avoid C-sections. Cami has a great pedigree that goes back into some of the really big names in labradors like: Ch. Scartho Frost and Ch Rochbey's Rippling corn just to name a couple. Cami is sweet natured and never strays far from our sides. You can't keep her out of a whelping box full of puppies. She will jump right in whether they are hers or not. She will even let them attempt to nurse her when she has no milk. I seriously think she would foster anything. We love her so much and wish her many more years here with us.
