Furry Friends Friday

Our Nubian Goats pictured in their barn stall. I wanted a goat so I could have fresh goats milk to make cheese with. I knew they do better in pairs and we needed to have babies in order to get milk so we bought a little buck too. The larger tan one is coco. She is my daughters goat and the little black one is blacker named by my son. We have yet to get milk yet since blacker was not old enough to breed coco this past fall, so maybe next year. Anyway they already have a wonderful purpose even if we never get milk. They are great weed eaters and love to eat poison ivy, which I am very allergic to. We turned them loose in the small woods between our house and our bean field they ate us down a very nice poison ivy free walk way. Now we can explore the woods and the field anytime. They are quite comical creatures and in some ways remind me alot of my dogs. They know when they are going from the barn to the woods to eat, they get very excited. They climb up on the fence and pace when they see me enter the barn until they get their food. They also nah at me when they here me outside hoping I will come over and pet them and bring them an apple or something left over from the garden. They are very smart. my kids love to lead them around with my supervision of course, they are stronger than one might think. They are great farm pets we love them.
